Our Pet List

Spring is in the air - help make it a happy spring for Pets!

Springtime at an animal shelter means that "puppy and kitten season" is just around the corner. The bad news is that more little ones will be born than there are homes for; but the good news is that more and more people are getting their animals spayed and neutered. Help celebrate spring by giving a homeless animal a new life - with YOU! And feel good about the fact that your new family member will not be adding to the pet overpopulation problem!! Please visit our pet list often - there are always many loving souls waiting to say "there's no place like home."

NEWS

Remember to check out our Bingo Fundraiser every Monday night at the Society for the Handicapped, Inc. building on Independence Drive in Napoleon. Doors open at five and the game starts at seven. Come join the fun!! We are planning a number of fundraisers this year. To prepare for that, we are holding regular fundraising committee meetings and have some great events in the works. Want to help? Send us an email at hchs@embarqmail.com. Please come and help us raise some funds and make friends to help our animals.

Volunteering and Donations

Looking for volunteers has become an ongoing process. Volunteering your time is one of the best ways to help animals. Whether you walk dogs or assist with fundraising such as bingo, you can make a difference in the lives of animals. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with a fundraising committee, and our newsletter. Also, we will celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2008 and are seeking volunteers to help make this a special event.

The Henry County Humane Society is currently participating in a fund raising program. This program pays our group $1-$12.00 for each empty Ink Jet or Laser printer cartridge we collect and $2.50 for each digital cell phone (working or not). Not only will this help us raise funds, it is also great for the environment. We are also starting to collect cell phones for the same purpose. So please bring any old or unused cell phones out to the shelter.

HCHS is funded by a weekly licensed Bingo fundraiser, donations, memberships and a contract with the County for dog sheltering services. The adoptable list changes on a daily basis so please come in and meet all of our unique animals

Who We Are

The Henry County Humane Society (HCHS) is a non-profit, non-governmental, charitable organization, chartered under the State of Ohio for the purpose of preventing animal cruelty, and to instill humane principles in others. HCHS was formed in 1981 and in 1983 secured the appointment of the first Humane Agent in the county's history, and began operating an animal shelter in 1984.

HCHS staff provides quality care for all stray, homeless, abandoned and relinquished animals, and provides a full array of services for people with pets and/or pet problems, including lost and found pet assistance, adoptions, reclaims, pet surrenders, animal cruelty investigation, and general animal information assistance or referral.

Adopting a Friend

Anyone interested in adopting a pet from HCHS must fill out an Adoption Questionnaire. The Adoption Specialist then interviews the potential adopter. During the 24 hour waiting period, a background check is completed and a dog is checked for Heartworm and/or a cat is checked for feline leukemia. The Animal Care Technicians and the Adoption Specialist make sure that the best possible match between potential owner and pet is accomplished.

Adoption fee is $75.00 per dog plus $14.00 license fee

Adoption fee is $70.00 per cat

These prices include the cost of spay or neuter surgery, heartworm test and a DA2PaPv booster vaccination for the dogs and a leukemia test and Fel-o-Vax PCT booster for the cats. Internal and external parasite removal also done if necessary. You also receive a 30 day free health exam for your pet.

All adopters sign a legal binding contract to insure Veterinary Care for each animal.
